Why...

Am I so obsessed with the Resident Evil franchise of video games? I think I'm hooked on the survival horror genre. Probably started with me playing id Software's DOOM although that really isn't considered survival horror. Anyway, I've been replaying RE Code Veronica X to try and finish it with an "A" rating (I told myself that I can't play the next game in the series until I unlock all the unlockables from the previous game). If I accomplish that, then I can restart the game and have an infinite Rocket Launcher as a weapon. There's a certain satisfaction that comes when you can blast a creature to bits with a rocket. So far, after 3 attempts with limited saves and decreasing total game times, I still haven't received the coveted "A" ranking. Well, I just found out how to do that. I can't save the game at all and I can't use first-aid sprays. Gosh, that kind of makes it difficult. Plus, I have to block off a few hours of time for game play. That's the nearly impossible task. Let's see what happens.

I've been playing a bunch of First Person Shooters the last few weeks. Played thru Doom, Doom2, Ultimate Doom, various redos of Doom, then Duke, Atomic Duke. (Played Duke using an emulator, otherwise you can't really play it on XP). Then Quake 2, 3, and 4. Then Halo and Halo 2 (the best game I've ever played, BTW) and Halo 2: Episode One (a mini sequel to Halo 2).. Then Far Cry (very good, check it out. I'd never heard of it), then Call of Duty 2 (I'm getting Call of Duty 1 as we speak), and some Painkiller (didn't like it and won't finish it). I even downloaded the US Army's free FPS, but it appears it's really for Multiplayer... the single player is just a bunch of you having to pass various Basic Training things... not real missions.

I'd recommend Halo 2 and Far Cry to you.

(For the PC, btw, not Playstation).

I wonder what I should "download for evaluation" next...).

Dammit, while I *did* play Halo, Halo 2 isn't out on PC yet, I don't think. I meant to include Half-Life and Half-Life 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode One.

Half-Life 2, not Halo, is I think the best game of that type I've ever played.

Sorry for the confusion.

(Halo's pretty fun, though, too).

Okay, to clear up the confusion, here's an edited version of my first comment. This is the correct wording:

I'd recommend Half-Life 2 and Far Cry to you. The first Half-Life is pretty damned good, too, but the graphics are 2000ish, not 2004/5 ish like "2".
